We all love the story "The Emperor has no clothes." I remember hearing it as a kid and thinking I would be one of the people that would point out the nakedness.
Now, a couple of decades later it's fun to think about what modern day mirages stand naked in plain sight.
If we imagine the classic story in today's hyper-connected world it's easy to picture how we would break out into factions of "fake news" and "transparent clothes believers".
The big difference is: while in the past truth would be hidden by our fear of the king - today truth is hidden by all of us "communicating" over each-other.
As our ideas compete for attention on the public stage they also hamper our ability to distinguish truth. This trend is only expect this to intensify as "we all become our own media companies."
Maybe one day in the future we will look at "sharing online" in the same way we see littering today. Or maybe the post-truth world is here to stay as predicted by Borges in "The Library of Babel"
