Pushup for you happiness
A pushup itself is boring and useless. The benefit of a pushup comes after the fact - from getting "in shape" by repeating many, over time.
You could say the same about meditation. Its purpose is to make us good at remembering "who and what we are NOT" - when we forget, and as humans we tend to forget.
There are many forms of meditation but I've found the smaller the instruction the more powerful they are. From this perspective, the simplest I learned about is to "focus all your attention on your breath".
The reason is: thats the smallest instruction you can give your mind while still having something to hold on to. There is nothing special about the breath itself.
When you try to simply focus on your breath you will notice how your mind goes in many directions.
Every time your mind drifts off - and you are able to notice it - then let it go, you are doing a pushup.
Just like in a pushup you get the benefit from each repetition of moving your body up and down - In meditation: getting distracted and catching yourself is the actual work... not the time you are "blissed out" or having a “spiritual experience”
As we live our lives and accumulate perceptions of ourselves that bind us - this simple practice works to keep our internal lenses and mirrors undistorted.
Find the exact place where your inhale turns in to oxygen that nourishes your body.
